Tinder's like limit: how many likes you get and when they reset

Free Tinder accounts can only give a limited number of likes (right swipes) before Tinder asks them to wait or upgrade. Tinder has never published the exact number, so most of what you read online is an estimate. Here is what Tinder has actually said, what people report, and what it means in practice.

Short answer: free accounts get a limited number of likes per 12-hour period (estimates run from about 25 to 100). Tinder Plus, Gold and Platinum include unlimited likes. When you run out, Tinder shows a countdown until you can like again.

Is there a like limit on Tinder?

Yes, on free accounts. Tinder added it in early 2015. In its announcement, Tinder said a small group of people were swiping right on almost everyone just to see who liked them back, which created matches that never turned into conversations. It also said most members would never hit the limit.

Tinder reported that in the first ten days after the change, matches per right swipe went up 25%, messages per match went up 25%, and spam bots went down 52%.

How many likes do you get on a free account?

Tinder doesn't say. Third-party write-ups put it anywhere from about 25 to 100 likes before the limit kicks in, and it appears to vary by account, by country and with the tests Tinder runs. So treat any exact figure you read, including "100 a day", as an estimate. The only reliable way to know your own limit is to count until Tinder stops you.

When do Tinder likes reset?

Tinder's 2015 announcement described the limit in 12-hour periods. Some sources describe a rolling 24-hour timer instead. Either way, Tinder shows a countdown once you've run out. That timer is the one to trust, not a fixed time of day.

Do left swipes count?

The limit is on likes. Nopes (left swipes) don't use it up. Super Likes have their own, separate allowance.

Which Tinder plans have unlimited likes?

PlanLikesAlso includes
FreeLimited (number not published)-
Tinder PlusUnlimitedPassport (change location), rewinds, no ads
Tinder GoldUnlimitedEverything in Plus, plus see who likes you
Tinder PlatinumUnlimitedEverything in Gold, plus prioritized likes

Prices and features vary by country and change over time; Tinder's subscription page has the current details.

What happens when you run out of likes?

Tinder shows a screen saying you're out of likes, with the countdown and an offer to upgrade. You can't like anyone else until the timer ends, unless you upgrade.

How auto swipers deal with the like limit

They can't get around it, because Tinder enforces it on your account, not in your browser. SwipeBoost, the auto swiper we make, stops by itself when Tinder shows the out-of-likes screen.

That has a practical consequence. On a free Tinder account, an auto swiper only saves you the time of giving the likes you'd get anyway. Liking thousands of profiles, as in our founder's 2-hour test of 5,000 likes, needs a Tinder plan with unlimited likes. If you're thinking about auto swiping, read how it works and the risks first.

FAQ

How many likes do you get on Tinder per day?

Tinder doesn't publish the number. Third-party estimates for free accounts range from about 25 to 100 likes before the limit, per 12-hour period, and it seems to vary by account. Tinder Plus, Gold and Platinum have unlimited likes.

Do Tinder likes reset at midnight?

No. Tinder described the limit in 12-hour periods rather than at a fixed time of day. When you run out, Tinder shows a countdown, and that timer is the one to go by.

Does Tinder Plus have unlimited likes?

Yes. Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum all include unlimited likes, as well as Passport for changing your location.

Does the like limit apply on Tinder web too?

Yes. The limit belongs to your account, so likes on tinder.com and in the phone app come out of the same allowance.

Can an auto swiper get around the like limit?

No. Tinder enforces the limit on its own servers for your account. An auto swiper can only give the likes Tinder allows. SwipeBoost stops by itself when Tinder says you're out of likes.
