What's the best time to swipe on Tinder?

Evenings, in your local time zone. Tinder has pointed to 9 p.m. (US and India, 2018) and a 7–10 p.m. prime time (2021), and its busiest day of the year is the first Sunday in January. Tinder says it prioritizes people who are active at the same time, so being there at peak matters more than the exact minute.

Disclosure: we make SwipeBoost, an auto-liker for Tinder on the web. This guide covers what works with or without it.

What Tinder has actually published (by year and country)

Here is everything we could trace back to Tinder itself, oldest first. Most of it reached the public through press coverage, so we name the outlet too.

Every hour Tinder has named is in the evening, and the "best day" changes with the country and the year. Tinder hasn't published a current weekly peak, so an article that gives you an exact hour for 2026 is guessing.

Is Sunday evening the weekly peak?

Many articles say Sunday evening is Tinder's busiest time of the week. We couldn't find that in anything Tinder has published, and the pages that repeat it don't cite a Tinder source. What Tinder has said is narrower: the first Sunday in January, which it calls Dating Sunday, is its busiest day of the year. That's one Sunday a year, not every Sunday. Sunday evenings may well be busy where you live, but treat that as something to test, not as a Tinder figure.

Why timing matters at all

In its own explanation of how matching works (published in 2019, updated in July 2022), Tinder calls using the app "the most important factor" for your match potential, and says: "We prioritize potential matches who are active, and active at the same time." In practice, that means being on the app when the people near you are on it too. A conversation also moves faster when you're both online. Tinder's green "Recently Active" dot only shows who has been on in the last 24 hours, not which hour is busiest. (More in how the Tinder algorithm works.)

Keep timing in proportion, though. It's one lever, and not the biggest. If your photos and bio aren't working, being online at 9 p.m. won't change that, so start with the profile basics.

Best time of day

Evening, in your local time. That's what all of Tinder's named hours have in common: 9 p.m. in the US and in India in 2018, and 7–10 p.m. in the 2021 figure.

Two details are easy to miss. The 2018 US figure was one moment across the whole country (9 p.m. on the East Coast, 6 p.m. on the West Coast), not "9 p.m. wherever you are". And none of these figures is about your city: where people work or eat late, the local peak may come later. Tinder hasn't published peak times by gender either, so claims about when women or men are most active on Tinder aren't based on Tinder data. A plan that works almost anywhere:

  • Main session: sometime between about 7 and 10 p.m. your time.
  • Short check-ins on other days to reply to matches. Tinder says "Using the app regularly helps members be more front and center", so a few minutes most evenings beats one long session a week.
  • The same hour for a week or two, so you can see whether it works for you rather than relying on someone else's data.

Best day of the week

Tinder's own data doesn't agree with itself here. In 2018, Monday was the most popular day in the US, while Tinder told users in India to swipe on Tuesdays, and Tinder hasn't published a weekly figure since. We found no Tinder data for Saturdays at all, and the Sunday claim is covered above. So rather than chase a best day from another country's 2018 report, test your own week: swipe at the same evening hour on different days for two weeks, and note which days bring the most matches and replies. If one day clearly wins for you, that's better evidence than anything on this page.

Best time of year

  • Dating Sunday. The first Sunday in January is Tinder's busiest day of the year. Ahead of Dating Sunday 2025, Tinder said swipe activity that day is nearly 20% higher and users get over 10% more matches than usual. In 2027, the first Sunday of January falls on January 3.
  • The run-up to Valentine's Day. In the same 2025 announcement, Tinder said users send 298.4 million more likes during the "Peak Season" leading up to Valentine's Day than during the rest of the year.
  • Late summer, at least in the US in 2018. That year's Year in Swipe named August as the most popular month to log on.
  • Big local events. Tinder built Swipe Surge around real-world events such as music festivals, when activity near you can be "up to 15x higher". Its Help Center (last updated in 2023) describes Swipe Surge as a test on iOS in select cities, so you may not see it.

When to use a Boost

A Boost makes you "1 of the top profiles in your area for 30 minutes", and Tinder says that can mean up to 10x more profile views while it runs. That's views, not matches. Tinder's Help Center doesn't name a best time to use one.

The logic is simple, though. A Boost puts you in front of people who are swiping during those 30 minutes, so use it when the most people near you are likely to be on: your local evening, roughly 7–10 p.m. Stay in the app and keep swiping while it runs, since Tinder prioritizes people who are active at the same time. A Boost at 4 a.m. is likely to reach far fewer people.

What about the best time to Boost on a Saturday, a Sunday or a Monday? Tinder hasn't published Boost data by day, so the answer is the same every day: the evening, in your time zone, while you're in the app. The one day Tinder keeps singling out is Dating Sunday in early January.

Traveling or using Passport

Peak hours follow the local time of the place you're swiping in, not the place you live. Passport, which comes with Tinder Plus, Gold and Platinum, lets you match in another city before you arrive. If you're in London and set Passport to Tokyo, 8 p.m. in Tokyo is 11 a.m. or noon in London, depending on the time of year, so that's when to swipe.

On a computer, Tinder takes your location from the browser, and the browser's estimate can be off, especially with a VPN switched on. If tinder.com shows you people from the wrong city, see how to use Tinder on a PC.

Can't be online at peak time?

Some evenings you'll be busy. A few things still help:

  • Check in for ten minutes in the evening, even if you swiped earlier in the day. It's the best time to reply to matches, and replying is the part nobody can do for you.
  • Keep the habit small and regular rather than saving everything for one long weekend session.
  • Save a Boost for an evening when you can actually be in the app.

The swiping itself can also be automated on a computer. If you've decided to like broadly (see whether you should swipe right on everyone) and you have unlimited likes, an auto-liker can do the clicking during the evening while you do something else. One caveat matters for this page in particular: we don't know whether Tinder counts automated likes as being "active", so don't assume it does.

Disclosure: we make SwipeBoost. SwipeBoost is a Chrome extension for Tinder on the web (tinder.com), on a computer only. While the tab is open, it likes every profile Tinder shows you, within the age, distance and gender settings from your Tinder account. It saves swiping time. It doesn't improve your profile, pick people for you, or get around Tinder's like limit: free Tinder accounts run out of likes quickly, and unlimited likes need Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum. Tinder's Terms of Use forbid bots and third-party apps that interact with Tinder, so using any auto-liker can get an account restricted or banned (what Tinder's terms say). Results vary, and nothing guarantees matches. How to set it up
